Thanks so much to our sponsor, Rize Alliance, for giving us the opportunity to be one of the pop-up shops at 196 Kingsway.

This was such a great experience for us all. We learned a lot about doing such a project, working in a group, and running a retail store to name just a few things.

We are now gone from the space but another pop-up shop has taken over the space, so check them out!

All of us will be part of the Eastside Culture Crawl. We hope to see you then. The event starts November 18 and goes to November 20. This is an awesome event where more than 300 artists open their studios to the public.

In the meantime, we’re in our studios continuing to produce new work. Here is the latest pocket mirror by Laura Bucci.

The shop is open for only two more days – this Tuesday and Wednesday the 28th. Hope to see you there!

Our hours for the last two days are, 11 to 5. We’re at 196 Kingsway at the corner of 10th Avenue.

Hey September Shop fans! Jen Pleadwell of twofolds textiles will be in store this Saturday, and would love to gift one of these hand dyed, silk rosette broaches to the first 2 customers that mention this post… !

How do you express your romanticism in your day to day life? Is it the jewelry you wear, a lovely scarf, special shoes, or a lovely neck piece? Let’s look at work in the shop that is distinctively inspired by romantic patterns evocative of perhaps the Victorian era and vintage images of a time gone-by. I think there are a few romantics amongst us in the group.  Here we are:

Patsy Kay Kolesar earings

The earrings above by Patsy Kay Kolesar make use of the oval, a gentle and soft shape, and vintage wallpaper patterns the likes found in Victorian parlours. The work says to me “aren’t I lovely?”

Flight Path earings

It seems that love was also on Flight Path Designs mind. There’s nothing like a heart to convey love & desire. Notice also the little buds up on top. Click on the image for a closer look or better yet come by the shop to see the images applied on these leather pieces, which by the way are surprisingly light. These are definitely for those of you who want to be noticed and are bolder in their actions.

Patsy Kay Kolesar & twofolds textiles

The lovely, ever romantic piece above was a collaboration between Patsy Kolesar and Jen of twofolds textiles. Jen provided the silk, hand-dyed flowers and Patsy took them over and created a one-of-a-kind neck piece. There is a lot of depth of colour in the flower buds. The spiral ring shapes in between them are another representation of the flower while also recalling the rings we wear on our fingers. Love can be complicated and maybe this piece speaks to that.

Laura Bucci Handmade journal & Patsy Kay Kolesar necklace

And lastly, I took this picture of Patsy’s heart-shaped necklace on my journal which was inspired by her work. There is no mistake of the theme here. My journal idea came about as I was writing my ‘morning pages‘ in bed, as I do every day, and thinking of the thoughts that must be going through my partners head. He probably often wonders if I am writing about him. More journals on this topic coming in the following months. Meanwhile, this journal is available also in charcoal and a lovely pink (only one left of each).

I hope you’ll find some inspiration here to add a romantic touch to your life.

Come on by only 7 days left for our pop-up shop.

We are busy at work working on collaboration projects that will be auctioned off at September Shop.  The proceeds will be going to ArtStarts, a leader on advocacy for arts in education.

My (Laura Bucci) collaboration project involved working with a pattern image that Patsy Kay Kolesar uses in her jewelry work. My interest in working with her image was not only based on the appeal of the pattern (a very different look from my current work) but was also tied to the opportunity of working within a new theme, namely love and relationships. I saw this as an exciting opportunity to explore new directions and mediums.

Collaboration project - screenprinted journal Laura Bucci

I’ve been familiar with Patsy’s work for a couple of years now and by following her blog and through various conversations we’ve had, I have been exposed to the different facets of her theme. I began to tie this background information with my own personal experience of love and slowly began to find what I wanted to say within this theme. After exploring various formats and mediums, I settled on working with objects of daily use and in letting them present yet another side of relationships.

Collaboration Project - journals

The journal will be auctioned together with a pocket mirror still on the topic of relationships as  seen below.
